Upgrading the MBBR Process to Reduce Excess Sludge Production in Activated Sludge System Treating Sewage

چکیده

Excess sludge production is one of the limitations biological activated process. Therefore, study’s objective to upgrade MBBR process an integrated fixed film-activated (IFAS) reduce excess production. Two scenarios were followed in this study eliminate process: first, modifying moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) system by increasing solid retention time (SRT) from 5 15 days; and second, upgrading fixed-film applying return (RAS) 50, 100 150% with operating hydraulic (HRT) 6, 12, 14 20 h. The results revealed that first scenario reduced 750 150 g/day, whereas second eliminated generation. In scenario, as IFAS complete SRT has due decay cell lysis. part 3 also showed achieved low effluent pollutants concentrations 3, 8 45 mg/L for BOD, COD, TSS NO3, respectively. Operating at may but result higher NO3 concentration NH3 To conclude, elimination possible carefully controlling RAS without additional treatment.

New approaches to minimize excess sludge in activated sludge systems.

This paper presents three new approaches to reduce excess sludge production in activated sludge systems: 1) modification of conventional activated sludge process with insertion of a sludge holding tank in the sludge return line; 2) chlorination of excess sludge so as to minimize excess sludge production; and 3) utilization of a metabolic uncoupler, 3, 3', 4', 5-Tetrachlorosalicylanilide (TCS) t...

A modified oxic-settling-anaerobic activated sludge process using gravity thickening for excess sludge reduction

Oxic-settling-anaerobic process (OSA) was known as a cost-effective way to reduce the excess sludge production with simple upgrade of conventional activated sludge process (CAS). A low oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) level was the key factor to sludge decay and lysis in the sludge holding tank of the OSA process. However, the ORP control with nitrogen purge or chemical dosing in the OSA pro...

Reduction of Excess Sludge in Sewage Treatment by Ozone Application

A new process which attains both excess sludge reduction and phosphorus recovery has been developed. In this paper, characteristics of sludge solubilization by ozone were investigated in batch experiments with sludge taken from an A/O reactor supplied with synthetic sewage and several real wastewater treatment plants. Then, performance of the new developed process was investigated in a laborato...

Reduction of excess sludge production by ozonation

The literature on reduction of excess sludge production by ozonation is summarized. Two sequencing batch reactor experiments where sludge is ozonated for this purpose are performed. The purpose of these is to evaluate the prospects of using ozonation to reduce excess sludge production in two different kinds of sludge. Urban sewage sludge is used in the first, and paper mill sludge in the second...
